The Different Types of Screen Printing

What is screen printing and what are the different types? Screen printing, also known as silk screening, is a technique used to apply images to materials that are printed on, such as t-shirts. The process is quite simple and has evolved significantly with the advancement of technology and equipment. This printing technique uses a woven mesh that is stretched over a frame to support an ink-blocking stencil. The stenciled area remains open while the non-stenciled area is filled with a non-porous material. The open areas of mesh transfer ink or other printable materials which can be pressed through the mesh as a sharp-edged image onto a substrate. Then a squeegee is pulled across the mesh to force the ink through the open area of the mesh onto the substrate, creating the image. This process is universal to all types of screen printing but there are various types of screen printing. Check them out below: Plastisol - This is one of the most common types of ink used in screen printing. It is a plastic-based ink made for apparel. Although it is generally cheaper, it is the industry standard and useful for thick prints. The soft plastisol ink is laid directly onto the fabric, covering the shirt with a layer of the graphic. Plastisol ink prints are not as long lasting as its counterpart [...]

At Rocky Mountain Apparel, we thought we’d share just a little bit of what we’ve been hearing. Form t-shirts, to pants, to purses and shoes, clothing designers are embracing the softer hues. Bold colors Denver is about to get some color. For as much as we’re hearing about pastels, we’re also hearing quite a bit of chatter about bold, bright colors. Don’t be surprised when you see them. Hello, 1980s At Rocky Mountain Apparel we recently put up a post that talked about the reasons you should clean out your closet. And while we’re still strong advocates of de-cluttering your space, if you happen to stumble across some 1980s- inspired apparel, you may want to hold onto that. Designers across the globe have been busying themselves with recreating that look. Checks and plaid are here to stay Plaid shirts aren’t only for lumberjacks. Designers [...]

Top 5 Reasons to Clean (and Purge) Your Closet

It may only be February, but spring is just around the corner. And yes, we appreciate the fact that the idea of cleaning out your closet probably doesn’t fall on your top 10 list of things you want to do this month—but does come with a small pile of benefits—which is why we here at Rocky Mountain Clothing have put together a top 5 list of reasons you should clean (and purge) your closet. Added space Does your closet feel like it’s about to burst at the seams? We’re guessing there are more than a few clothing items lingering on the hangers (and shelves) that are old, unused and outdated.  And do you really need all those extra hangers?  Spring is coming, which, for many people, means a trip to your favorite clothing store. This is a prime reason you should clean out the clutter and make some room for some new shirts, shoes and accessories. Circling back to “old and outdated” The rule of thumb is that if you haven’t worn it in a year, you should purge it. If it doesn’t fit (and you don’t anticipate it’s going to fit anytime soon), you should purge it. If you haven’t worn it since college—purge it. If it doesn’t belong to you (or your spouse, or significant other) and you have no idea [...]

What Makes a Great Logo? Tips from Rocky Mountain Apparel

Logos are everywhere, so it can be a difficult task to create one that will stand out from the crowd. Some opt for clean lines and low dimension, while others favor words and bright hues over abstract imagery. Whatever your style, be sure to keep these rules of thumb in mind when designing a logo for your business. First, remember to keep things simple. Sure, intricate design may help sell graphic tees, but unless these are your premiere product, customers often appreciate a logo that’s more bare and to the point. These types of designs are effective in catching and keeping a customer’s eye when they’re on the move, or staring at a wall full of products, trying to locate yours in the mix. Keeping things simple will also, in turn, make your logo design memorable to someone who only saw it for a moment the first time. This way, the next time they walk by, they’ll associate the image to your business without much mental work. The next step to building an effective and popular logo design is to make sure it will not go out of style. Many timeless designs are contingent upon font style and color. Try not to play into current design trends too much, and stay true to what makes your brand and products unique. You can test [...]

The Rise of the Graphic Tee: The Timeless Allure Of Screen Printing’s Star Material

THE RISE OF THE GRAPHIC TEE: THE TIMELESS ALLURE OF SCREEN PRINTING'S STAR MATERIAL The plain white T-shirt is not only an American staple fashion item but also the perfect canvas over which to layer the perfect outfit for any given day of the year. They first began to pop up around the turn of the century and were largely popularized in the American military in World War I. But it wasn’t until the 1940’s and 1950’s when the T-shirt became a common casual item. From there, the graphic tee was born, and we at Rocky Mountain Apparel are forever grateful. Multiple sources online verify the Cooper Underwear Company made the first mainstream crew-neck style tee shirt for men, which was largely based on traditional base layers worn under clothing before the turn of the century. However, the T-shirt’s name offers up some conflicting narratives in the simple Google search. One camp believes the popular top’s name comes from it’s simplistic, letter-T-like shape when laid out flat; another reads further into the name, assuming it comes from it’s original military use, where the letter T is short for “training”. Regardless of who popularized the T-shirt and who’s responsible for its name, it’s now become a commonplace item in American fashion that most could not imagine living without. T-shirts can range from [...]

Buyer’s Guide: Athleisure Materials, Quality and Customization of Athletic Gear

BUYER'S GUIDE: ATHLEISURE MATERIALS, QUALITY AND CUSTOMIZATION OF ATHLETIC GEAR Athleisure is a nationwide trend, but carries a bit of functional credibility in the Mile High City. It’s a great trend for a lot of reasons, including its attention to the real life actions of those who wear athleisure clothing. It’s also a great compliment to the average Denver resident’s detailed workout regimen and generally clean diet. We’re all about health, comfort, and productivity along the Front Range, and the athleisure trend has those three tenets written all over it. Our experts at Rocky Mountain Apparel are here to provide extensive graphic design and production services to our clients, from cotton tees and hoodies to athletic tops and outerwear. We’ve put together a list of top athleisure do’s and don’t’s for your closet: First, don’t allow any piece to get too worn. With athletic wear, you’re already riding the line of casual-versus-gym clothes, and only clean lines and dryer-fresh looks will do. Be sure to keep your whites as pearly as possible and keep spandex from stretching out. Keep an eye on holes or pilling that develops, and be sure to repair and replace as necessary. When rocking sporty sneakers, sweats, leggings, and tops, look for accessories that will spice up the look. Whether it’s a piece of signature jewelry or a [...]
